AHHS Juniors: West Point’s Summer Leaders Experience (SLE)
At West Point, we develop Leaders of Character, and we are looking for high-achieving young people who are in great standing with their school and community, and who want to challenge themselves. Please see the attached flyer.
What is SLE?
-SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June.
-Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall.
-Learn about West Point’s world-class academics by trying 4 of our 17 academic workshops.
-Learn about military training and becoming a Leader of Character at West Point by completing two military days to include rappelling, Zodiac boats, combatives (like Jiu-Jitsu) training and more!
-Challenge themselves physically by attempting the Candidate Fitness Assessment, conducting physical training, and sports.
-Complete their admissions interview with a cadet.
-Spend the week making friends with other students from all over the US who are applying to West Point.
All the students that I have spoken with have really enjoyed this program and they especially enjoy interacting with the cadets. Students may sign up for this program now by using the QR code in the attached “2024 SLE FLYER” or directly at westpoint.edu. We will accept applications until April 15th. SLE is competitive and not all who apply are offered to attend.

AHHS: Apply Now for Scholarship Opportunities - Application deadline April 1
McHenry County Farm Bureau Agricultural Education Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities for agriculture and/or trades.
The John W. Hoffman Memorial Scholarship - $1,500
John Hoffman was a long-time member of the Northeastern Illinois Twin Cylinder Club (NEITCC) and served on its board of directors. He was an integral member of the Club, a 41-year employee of Alliance Contractors, Inc., a tractor restoration expert, and a member of the agricultural community.
NEITCC previously decided that a scholarship benefiting someone from the next generation of farmers or tradesmen was a fitting tribute to a man who volunteered constantly and was always willing and able to help. It would be John’s hope that a scholarship in his memory would go to someone with the same love of farming and/or the trades that he had. McHenry County Farm Bureau Foundation serves as the fiscal agent and scholarship administrator for this $1,500 scholarship opportunity for high school seniors.
MCFB Foundation Agriculture Scholarship - $1,000
The scholarship is available for high school seniors pursuing continuing education in agriculture or agriculture-related fields. Additional scholarships may be awarded if funds are available, and we have multiple applicants at the time of judging.
An online application is available through our website at mchenrycfb.org. Scholarship applications need to be received by April 1, 2024. The applicant or the applicant’s family must be a member of the McHenry County Farm Bureau to qualify.
If you have any questions regarding these scholarships, please call our office at 815 338-1520 or email mcfbmgr@att.net.
