AHHS Students: As you navigate your academic journey and plan for the future, we want to share an exciting opportunity with you: virtual college fairs! In today's digital age, attending a college fair no longer requires traveling long distances or taking time off from your busy schedule. Instead, you can explore a world of possibilities right from the comfort of your own home.
Registration is open for the Spring NACAC Virtual College Fairs. You and your students are invited to attend the first NACAC Virtual College Fair of the season on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 1:00pm - 6:00pm ET. The virtual fair is a great opportunity to connect with hundreds of colleges and universities - all from the comfort of your own home.
The fairs feature College MatchMaking®. At the time of registration, students will select the attributes that are most important to them in a college. They will receive an email that best matches them to specific colleges and universities based on the criteria they provided. Tomorrow is AHHS Digital SAT/PSAT Practice Test Day
On February 15th, we will be holding the AHHS Digital SAT/PSAT Practice Test Day. This is an important event as it marks the first time the SAT/PSAT tests will be administered digitally, eliminating the need for paper and pencil. This year, the digital SAT/PSAT tests have undergone significant changes, and it is crucial for our students to be prepared.
Therefore, all 9th-11th grade students will be taking a full-length digital SAT or PSAT test on February 15th. This practice test will serve multiple purposes: familiarizing students with the test's length and format, acquainting them with the types of questions they can expect, allowing them to practice using the online tools, and hopefully reducing any test anxiety they may have before the Official School Day SAT/PSAT on April 10th.
During the practice test, students will utilize College Board's secure testing platform, known as Bluebook. Once the practice tests are scored, students will have access to free individualized practice through Khan Academy. Students: please make sure that your Chromebooks are charged (bring your chargers) and remember that you may not have your phone/smartwatch during the test so please leave securely locked in your locker.
Please be aware that on February 15th, there will be an early dismissal at 1:00. High school seniors will attend LCTC and will leave after to have the opportunity to explore various post-secondary plans, such as job shadowing, internships, college or trade school visits, and more. As for high school juniors at LCTC, they will be granted a calendar conflict day to take the practice test.

Volunteers Needed!
Hi There Alden-Hebron HS Students/Community Members/Friends of Hackmatack Volunteers!
This Sunday, February 11th from 9 a.m. to Noon the Friends of Hackmatack will host our next scheduled stewardship day. We will be working at the Tryon Grove site, located on the north side of Tryon Grove Road, 1.5 miles west of the intersection with Routes 12 and 31 in Richmond. A map to the site from the intersection of Routes 12 and 31 is shown here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/42.4508626,-88.3058114/42.4451761,-88.3329365/@42.4474411,-88.3280166,14.98z?entry=ttu
The address is 7008 E Tryon Grove Rd, Richmond, IL 60071-9757, 42.447970, -88.332620. If you are familiar with our Tamarack West site, the Tryon Grove site is across the road and a bit further west (and on the north side of Tryon Grove Road). There is plenty of room for parking after you pull into the site; be careful when entering and exiting the site (oncoming traffic may be shielded from view).
We will be removing trees and brush from a fence line along the west edge of the site, along with the removal of the fence itself.
Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and please bring your own drinking water. Protective clothing such as long pants (not leggings) are recommended. We’ll have hand tools, workgloves, safety glasses, and a few snacks.
An RSVP is appreciated, so if you know you will be attending please give me a heads up. Alden-Hebron Students are welcome and are greatly appreciated! If you are under age 18, you will need a parent or guardian to sign the attached waiver form indicating that you are authorized to attend; you can either email the signed form back to me or bring it to the workday. (You do not need to sign, just your parent/guardian.) Note that some parts of this form are left blank. The sections to be completed are 1-19 and 28-36. Mrs. VanderPal emailed the form to your school email on 2/6/24.
As always, if there is any question of weather, please check your email before you head out to the workday; no email means we are on. You can also check in with Pete Jackson at 224-612-1803 if you have a question.
We hope to see you Sunday as we work to restore beauty to the land and habitat for grassland birds and other wildlife!
